ANC-PAC Meets With Senatorial Candidate
Danny Tarkanian

November 14, 2009
Glendale, CA - The Armenian National Committee Political Action Committee (ANC-PAC) recently met with Danny Tarkanian who is bidding to become the first ever Armenian American elected to the US Senate. Tarkanian is the son of famed coach Jerry Tarkanian and once led UNLV's basketball team to 24 straight wins and the school's first ever number one NCAA ranking as its starting point guard.

The meeting focused on Tarkanian's goals, if elected to the Senate, as well as his views on what his agenda would be with regard to issues of importance to the Armenian American community.

"I look forward to working with the ANCA, once I am elected, to ensure that Armenian Americans finally have a voice of their own in the Senate" said Tarkanian. "For many years we have heard platitudes from ‘friends' of the community, but it is time to have a direct ancestor of genocide survivors speak up about the unfair pressure being put on Armenia to accept Protocols which call for a ‘historical commission' and put in danger the very status of the Republic of Nagorno Karabagh. Instead of tepidly worded letters to the Secretary of State, I will demand to know why America would pressure the victim, Armenia, while helping the perpetrators, Turkey and Azerbaijan."

"We were very encouraged when we met with Danny to hear him passionately speak about recognition of the Armenian Genocide, fighting the Obama administration's cuts to aid to Armenia, respecting the right of self-determination of the citizens of Artsakh and, most importantly these days, his opposition to these ill-conceived Protocols," said Armen Martin, Chairman of the ANC-PAC.

Danny graduated with high honors from UNLV and was the school's first Rhodes Scholar candidate. He also received the prestigious NCAA post-graduate award, given to the student-athletes who most excel in both the classroom and in athletics. After graduating from UNLV, Danny attended law school at the University of San Diego graduating 3rd in his class, magna cum laude, and was also named to the Law Review.

Danny and his wife Amy live in Las Vegas with their three daughters, Lois, Ava and Ashley. The Tarkanians are also expecting a son in the coming month. Today, Danny runs a real estate business and is co-director of the Tarkanian Basketball Academy. Those interested in helping Tarkanian's campaign should visit his website at www.tark2010.org.

The ANC-PAC is a non-partisan federally registered political action committee established to support campaign committees for Members of Congress who share the values of the Armenian American community. The ANC-PAC continues a century old tradition of Armenian American engagement on the public policy issues facing national political leaders, both in the United States Congress and the White House.
