ANC Supporters Strongly Back
Congressman Brad Sherman November 6, 2008 Bel Air, CA - Just days before election day, Armenian Americans came out in force at a fundraiser held for Congressman Brad Sherman (D-CA) in Bel Air, California on November 2, 2008. The Congressman, a member of the powerful House Foreign Affairs Committee, is a major proponent of human rights and development issues of deep concern to his Armenian American constituents in the San Fernando Valley. "We love Brad Sherman," remarked San Fernando Valley ANC Chairman Nichan Kulukian, who attended the fundraiser. "We respect his leadership on foreign affairs issues and his bold commitment to improving America's ties with Armenia and Artsakh," Kulukian added. In a memorable interview last year with The Armenian Weekly, Sherman responded clearly as to why it is important for Congress to recognize the Armenian Genocide. "First, recognition is important because of what it means to the Armenian community and to those who actually survived those terrible events," he commented. "Second, genocide denial is the last step of genocide: You destroy the people, and then you destroy the memory. Genocide denial is also the first step of the next genocide. After the Rwandan genocide, others in Africa thought they could get away with genocide in Darfur," the Congressman added. Among those attending the Sherman fundraiser were longtime ANC activist Hagop Tchakerian, ANCA Board member Raffi Hamparian and ANC supporter Viken Kradjian and his family. Kradjian, a strong Sherman supporter, was a co-host for the fundraiser. The ANC-PAC is a non-partisan federally registered political action committee established to support campaign committees for Members of Congress who share the values of the Armenian American community. The ANC-PAC is at the forefront of efforts to ensure that the voice of the Armenian American community is clearly heard in our nation's capital. The ANC-PAC continues a century old tradition of Armenian American engagement on the public policy issues facing national political leaders, both in the U.S. Congress and the White House. |
