Sherman Gets Strong Backing From ANC-PAC
September 11, 2008 Los Angeles, CA - Southern California Congressman Brad Sherman has been endorsed by the nation's largest and most active Armenian American political action committee. In endorsing Sherman, the Armenian National Committee - Political Action Committee (ANC-PAC) called the Congressman a powerful advocate for Armenia in Congress and a strong voice for his constituents in California's 27th Congressional District. The Congressman's District stretches across much of the San Fernando Valley and is home to thousands of Armenian American voters. "Since the first day he became a Member of Congress, Brad Sherman has stood shoulder to shoulder with our community," remarked ANC-PAC supporter and constituent Nishan Bostanian. "We urge all Armenian Americans in the 27th Congressional District to vote for Brad Sherman, either by absentee ballot or at the polls on November 4th," he added. "Congressman Sherman has been a decisive ally on legislative issues impacting Armenia and Nagorno-Karabagh. He has been very responsive to our community members when they have needed assistance on issues dealing with the federal government. Whether it is supporting an inquiry from an Armenian American war veteran living in Sherman Oaks or battling the Turkish lobby in the halls of Congress," Brad is a proven friend and I am proud we are supporting him 100%," Bostanian added. Congressman Sherman made worldwide news last year when he joined a majority of his colleagues on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and passed the Armenian Genocide resolution. Sherman led the charge on the committee to dispel the campaign of genocide denial being advanced by the Republic of Turkey and its army of paid lobbyists. After the vote in committee, Sherman provided the following quote to The New York Times, "Despite President George Bush twisting arms and making deals, justice prevailed. For if we hope to stop future genocides we need to admit to those horrific acts of the past." Congressman Sherman is an original cosponsor of the Armenian Genocide resolution. Congressman Brad Sherman was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1996 with the full support of the Armenian American community. He presently serves as the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee's subcommittee on International Terrorism, Non-Proliferation and Human Rights. He also serves on the subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific. He also serves as an active member of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues. The ANC-PAC is a non-partisan federally registered political action committee established to support campaign committees for Members of Congress who share the values of the Armenian American community. The ANC-PAC is at the forefront of efforts to ensure that the voice of the Armenian American community is clearly heard in our nation's capital. The ANC-PAC continues a century old tradition of Armenian American engagement on the public policy issues facing national political leaders, both in the U.S. Congress and the White House. |
