On March 21, 2007 Congressman Schiff gained worldwide attention when he challenged U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice for denying the Armenian Genocide. In a video from a hearing of the House Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee, Congressman Schiff famously asked, "Is there any historic debate outside of Turkey [on the Armenian Genocide]? Is there any reputable historian you're aware of that takes issue with the fact that the murder of 1.5 million Armenians constituted genocide?"
