ANC-PAC Endorsed Candidates Celebrate
November 7th Victories

November 8, 2006
GLENDALE, CA - As the final tally of votes are being reported across the state and across the nation, the Armenian National Committee - Political Action Committee (ANC-PAC) is pleased to congratulate the numerous candidates it endorsed at all levels.

"Victorious or not, the effort and devotion of every candidate is to be lauded. These mid-term elections brought a political sea-change in Washington and also signified an important moment in the history of our communities participation in American politics," noted ANC-PAC Chairman, Leonard Manoukian.

Nationwide, the ANC endorsed candidates registered numerous victories across the United States. Of particular note were the victories of PAC endorsed candidates in New Jersey, Texas, and Nevada.

In Texas, ANC friends and activists rallied around Lampson this election season. Lampson received the ANC PAC endorsement early during his successful campaign to replace former House Republican Majority Leader, Tom DeLay - a long-time opponent of Armenian American issues.

Senator Menendez recently placed a hold on the controversial nomination of Richard Hoagland nomination. Hoagland was nominated to replace US Ambassador John Evans who was fired by the US Administration after he publicly referred to the Armenian Genocide. Because of Menendez's courageous stand and years of support for Armenian American issues, the ANC was proud to stand with him in the 2006 elections.

Senator Ensign, a stalwart supporter, most recently as the co-author of Armenian Genocide legislation in the Senate, won the support of the Armenian American community this past summer and his bid for re-election Tuesday evening.

In California, ANC-PAC endorsees, Representatives Adam Schiff and Brad Sherman both held their seats.

Election results were generally favorable in terms of state governmental offices. A worthy public servant, with years of experience, Republican Chuck Poochigian was unable to close the gap in his bid to become California's next Attorney General.

More successful was the Democratic candidate for California's Lieutenant Governor, John Garamendi, who edged his challenger by 5% points. He was joined by fellow ANC-PAC endorsee, Democrat John Chiang, who finished the evening with a commanding 10% point victory in his bid for State Controller.

ANC-PAC's sole State Senate endorsee, Leland Yee, was successful in his bid for the 8th State Senate District. ANC-PAC also endorsed two candidates for the 43rd and 44th State Assembly Districts, Paul Krekorian and Anthony Portantino, respectively. Representing the Armenian American strongholds of Glendale, Burbank, La Crescenta and Pasadena both these candidates won their races by wide margins.

"We are pleased that so many of our endorsed candidates, all strong on issues of concern to our community, succeeded in their bids. We are certain that the entire State will benefit from their service." remarked Manoukian.

Of special significance was Paul Krekorian's decisive victory. "It (Krekorian's election) is particularly notable as it signals another stage in the advancement of Armenian American political empowerment," noted Manoukian.

Krekorian, who recently served as the Burbank Unified School District Board of Education President, will head to Sacramento in January to be sworn in as the next State Assembly Member to represent the 43rd district.

The ANC-PAC is a non-partisan political Action Committee, registered with the Federal Government and the California Secretary of State (I.D. #1282276).
