ANC-PAC Applauds Los Angeles Mayor
Antonio Villaraigosa and City Council for
Backing Armenian Genocide Bills

December 8, 2005
LOS ANGELES, CA - The Armenian National Committee - Political Action Committee (ANC-PAC) issued a statement today praising Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and the Los Angeles City Council for adopting a resolution in support of two bills marking the Armenian Genocide that are pending in the United States Congress. The resolution formally includes support for the Armenian Genocide bills in the City's 2005-2006 Federal Legislative Program.

The Councilman of the 13th District, Eric Garcetti, presented the resolution, which was unanimously adopted on December 2, 2005. The Councilman, a prominent supporter of Armenian issues, represents thousands of Armenian Americans who live in Little Armenia in Hollywood. The resolution crafted by Councilman Garcetti had the full and enthusiastic support of the dynamic new Mayor of Los Angeles, Antonio Villaraigosa. As a growing power in the Democratic Party nationally, the Mayor's support for the resolution was especially meaningful and consistent with his close working relationship with the Armenian National Committee of America.

"We thank Mayor Villaraigosa and Councilman Garcetti for their leadership in pushing the US Congress to properly acknowledge the Armenian Genocide," remarked ANC-PAC Chairman Leonard Manoukian. "We look forward to sharing this important resolution with area Members of Congress, like Congressman David Dreier (R-CA), who have the power to bring the Armenian Genocide resolution to a vote on the House floor," Manoukian added.

Two bills marking the Armenian Genocide, one authored by Congressmen George Radanovich (R-CA) and the other by Adam Schiff (D-CA) are now awaiting a vote on the House floor. The House International Relations Committee overwhelmingly passed both bills on September 15, 2005.

The ANC-PAC is a non-partisan federally registered political action committee established to support campaign committees for Members of Congress who share the values of the Armenian American community. The ANC-PAC is at the forefront of efforts to ensure that the voice of the Armenian American community is clearly heard in our nation's capital. The ANC-PAC continues a century old tradition of Armenian Americans being engaged with the public policy issues facing national political leaders, both in the U.S. Congress and the White House.
