ANC-PAC Discusses Armenian Genocide Bill
With Congressman Henry Waxman

December 5, 2005
Los Angeles, CA - Congressman Henry Waxman (D-CA) recently discussed the need to schedule a vote on an Armenian Genocide resolution on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives with officials from Armenian National Committee - Political Action Committee (ANC-PAC). Congressman Waxman's dialogue with ANC-PAC representatives took place in Los Angeles on December 1, 2005.

Twin pieces of legislation marking the Armenian Genocide, authored independently by Congressmen George Radanovich (R-CA) and Adam Schiff (D-CA), were overwhelmingly passed by the House International Relations Committee on September 15, 2005. These bills are now awaiting Republican House leaders to order them to a vote on the House floor.

"Congressman Waxman understands that the denial of the Armenian Genocide only serves to make our world a more dangerous one," commented ANC-PAC Chairman Leonard Manoukian. "As Nobel Prize winner Elie Wiesel once remarked, the denial of genocide represents a double killing. That is why we need to put an end to Turkey's immoral genocide denial campaign and why the ANC-PAC is proud of Congressman Waxman's full support for coming to terms with the historical fact of the Armenian Genocide," Manoukian added.

Congresswoman Waxman is a cosponsor of H.Res. 316, an Armenian Genocide bill sponsored by Fresno area Congressman George Radanovich (R-CA). That bill was adopted by a margin of 40 to 7 by the House International Relations Committee. He is also a cosponsor of H.Con.Res. 195, legislation introduced by his Southland colleague Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) that marks the Armenian Genocide. The House International Relations Committee approved this bill by a margin of 35 to 11 earlier this year.

In the 108th Congress, Congresswoman Waxman received a "B+" in his annual ANCA Congressional Report Card. He has long been an active member of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues and has served as a host of the ANCA's annual Genocide Observance held on Capitol Hill.

Henry A. Waxman represents California's 30th Congressional District, which includes the complete cities of Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Malibu, Westlake Village and West Hollywood, as well as such areas of Los Angeles as Beverly-Fairfax, Pacific Palisades, Brentwood, Beverlywood, Topanga, Agoura, Chatsworth and Westwood.

The ANC-PAC is a non-partisan federally registered political action committee established to support campaign committees for Members of Congress who share the values of the Armenian American community. The ANC-PAC is at the forefront of efforts to ensure that the voice of the Armenian American community is clearly heard in our nation's capital. The ANC-PAC continues a century old tradition of Armenian Americans being engaged with the public policy issues facing national political leaders, both in the U.S. Congress and the White House.
