ANC-PAC Praises Congresswoman Hilda Solis For Her Leadership on Armenia Issues
December 4, 2005 Los Angeles, CA - Representatives of the Armenian National Committee - Political Action Committee (ANC-PAC) recently commended Congresswoman Hilda Solis (D-CA) for her continued support for legislation to properly acknowledge the Armenian Genocide. "Armenian Americans who live in the San Gabriel Valley can be proud of the support Congresswoman Hilda Solis has consistently given to issues designed to strengthen Armenia's relationship with America," commented ANC-PAC Chairman Leonard Manoukian. California's 32nd Congressional District, which is represented by Solis, includes the cities of Azusa, Covina, Duarte, El Monte, Irwindale, Rosemead, South El Monte, and West Covina. "The ANC-PAC is proud of our relationship with Congresswoman Solis and appreciative of her legislative support for bills addressing the Armenian Genocide," Manoukian added. Congresswoman Solis is a cosponsor of H.Con.Res. 195, legislation introduced by her colleague Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) that marks the Armenian Genocide. The House International Relations Committee approved that bill on September 15, 2005 by a margin of 35 to 11. The same committee, by a margin of 40 to 7, adopted a similar bill (H.Res. 316) introduced by Congressman George Radanovich (R-CA) on the same day. In the 108th Congress, Congresswoman Solis received an "A" in her annual ANCA Congressional Report Card. She has long been an active member of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues and supported legislation, that was ultimately adopted, designed to provide Armenia normal trade relations with the United States. Congresswoman Solis is a lifetime resident of the San Gabriel Valley and currently resides in the city of El Monte with her husband Sam, a small business owner. Her parents and her six siblings continue to be a great source of inspiration to Congresswoman Solis. In 2005, Solis was elected Co-Chair of the bipartisan Congressional Caucus for Women's Issues and named Chair of the Democratic Women's Working Group. The ANC-PAC is a non-partisan federally registered political action committee established to support campaign committees for Members of Congress who share the values of the Armenian American community. The ANC-PAC is at the forefront of efforts to ensure that the voice of the Armenian American community is clearly heard in our nation's capital. The ANC-PAC continues a century old tradition of Armenian Americans being engaged with the public policy issues facing national political leaders, both in the U.S. Congress and the White House. |
