ANC-PAC Fundraiser for
Congressman Howard Berman

December 1, 2005
Los Angeles, CA - The Armenian National Committee - Political Action Committee (ANC-PAC) recently sponsored a fundraiser for the reelection campaign of Congressman Howard Berman (D-CA). The Congressman represents California's 28th District, which covers a large portion of the San Fernando Valley, which is home to over 100,000 Armenian Americans. In addition to the ANC-PAC, actor Richard Dreyfuss and billionaire developer and philanthropist Eli Broad also sponsored the event, which raised over $250,000.

"We were pleased to support Congressman Berman's fundraiser, remarked ANC-PAC Chairman Leonard Manoukian. "In the last Congressional session Congressman Berman received an A+ from the ANCA for his consistent and active support for issues of concern to his Armenian American constituents in California's San Fernando Valley. We appreciate his leadership in making sure the voice of our community is heard in Washington, DC," Manoukian added.

Most recently, Congressman Berman voted in support of Armenian Genocide resolutions, sponsored by Congressmen George Radanovich and Adam Schiff, which were overwhelmingly adopted by the House International Relations Committee on September 15, 2005. The Congressman is a senior member of the committee and has gained increasing influence on foreign aid and human rights issues.

Attending the ANC-PAC sponsored event in support of Congressman Berman were longtime ANC supporter and former Clinton Administration appointee Michael Mahdesian, ANC sponsor Serop Beylerian, ANCA-WR Board Member Vahe Melkonian, Chairman of the East San Fernando Valley ANC Chapter Manoug Haladjian and ANCA Board Member Raffi Hamparian.

The ANC-PAC is a non-partisan federally registered political action committee established to support campaign committees for Members of Congress who share the values of the Armenian American community. The ANC-PAC is at the forefront of efforts to ensure that the voice of the Armenian American community is clearly heard in our nation's capital. The ANC-PAC continues a century old tradition of Armenian Americans being engaged with the public policy issues facing national political leaders, both in the U.S. Congress and the White House.
